This project consists of a new 2-storey, 4,000± m² office building and police station. City Police Services is housed in one building wing and, through a common lobby, commercial office space in another wing. The main buildings were constructed with structural steel framing and the underground portions were constructed using cast-in-place concrete. Compositely designed floor beams were used for economy, fire resistance and vibration resistance. The secure holding and cell area was constructed of loadbearing concrete block supporting an independent structural slab ceiling. Seismic loads were resisted by steel bracing. The bracing locations and configurations were determined based on Architectural planning requirements.
Frederick Square/TD Tower Office Tower
This new complex consisted of a 7 storey (10,000± m²) private office building and 535 vehicle, 5 level parking garage. The building structure was framed with flat slab concrete construction with seismic forces resisted by concrete shear walls in the buildings’ cores. The parking garage was framed with pre-cast/pre-stressed concrete members. As structural consultants, we were able to meet the intents of the Architect’s design while still keeping the structural costs within budget.
Moncton Place
This new complex consisted of a 7 storey private office building and a 6 storey municipal (office) building with a total area of 12,000± m². The structures were framed with flat slab concrete construction with seismic forces resisted by concrete shear walls in the buildings’ cores. Both buildings have elliptical recesses and large atriums which called for innovation structural designs. As structural consultants, Eastern Designers was able to meet the intents of the Architect’s design by utilizing unique and sophisticated structural analysis and design while still keeping the structural costs within budget.
Saint John Police Station
The building is a 11,000 m², three storey structure housing Saint John’s Police Headquarters. The facility includes a below grade parking garage and two floors of operational and administrative space and is connected by an underground tunnel to the new Saint John Law Courts. The basement level also houses a detention/holding cell facility shared with the adjacent Law Courts Complex.
Saint John Law Courts
This project consists of a major new 7-storey, 15,000± m² law court and office complex. It is an energy-efficient facility with 13 courtrooms, a barristers’ lounge, and office space for the judiciary, court services, public prosecutions, sheriff services, the Department of Public Safety and policing. The facility includes an underground parking facility and is connected by an underground tunnel to the new Saint John Police Headquarters. The main building was constructed with structural steel framing and the underground portions were constructed using cast-in-place concrete. Compositely designed floor beams were used for economy, fire resistance and vibration resistance. Seismic loads were resisted by steel bracing. The bracing locations and configurations were determined based on Architectural planning requirements.
